Fancy Brand Name

Welcome!

We’re a bunch of moonlighters who like working at the bleeding edge of technology, and have a few projects which we’re sincerely trying to build into independent businesses (before we spin them off and start on the next neat idea). See, from our experience we’ve found that most corporations, agencies and not-for-profits have a hard time justifying a truly bleeding edge solution because they have risk-averse business interests. Yet it is on the bleeding edge where the best, newest, and most innovative new companies are built. Why? because most of those things haven’t been done before.

Furthermore, everybody wants the Big Idea, right? They want to invest once, and make tens of millions, and then invest again, and make tens of millions. This doesn’t really work for us though, because you end up locked down on a single project for years while the world passes you by. Instead, we want to invest time in a little idea, hopefully to make enough money to get the next idea off the ground, and between the two of them we might be able to squeeze out three more, and sooner or later we’ll have proven that the long tail applies to websites as well.

Moonlighting

Because of practical concerns we all hold down day jobs, which means that we don’t have 40 hour weeks to dedicate to our projects. Instead we put a lot of time into reusability and well-tested code. This does mean things take a little longer at the outset, but the end result is that every project gives us a head start on the next one (even if it fails).

We are also well aware of the value of our free time, and thus don’t expect extracurricular coding without offering something in our spare time. The best way to guarantee passion is to give individuals a sense of ownership and then step back (quickly) to watch the feathers fly. Any contributor to a project has part ownership in accordance to their contribution. Yes, this means we pay in equity share per hour on top of whatever salaries we can afford (Which, right now, is zero).

DIY

We do it ourselves. Yes, there are many pre-baked and packaged platform solutions out there, however we find it’s too dangerous to tie ourselves to a pay-for platform at this point of our business life. Firstly, most systems are restrictive in what they let you do, so customization is tricky. Secondly, we don’t want to get stuck rebuilding all of our web applications if a platform decides to upgrade one of our features into obsolescence.

Therefore we build our own. Really, it’s the only way we don’t become beholden to someone who wants to fleece us for what little money we have (Which, as stated before, is zero).

If you like what you see..

…then drop us a line! We’re friendly, like a good beer on occasion, and don’t bite. We’re always looking for feedback to our projects and ideas about how to do things better, so by all means don’t hesitate to contact us.
